Milwaukee County Zoo – Animal Ambassador Program
In 2002 The Holz Family Foundation began supporting the Animal Ambassador Program at the Milwaukee County Zoo. The program enhances the life science curriculum of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students from local schools in disadvantaged neighborhoods who may not otherwise have the opportunity to visit the Zoo. It also helps teachers fulfill the state science education standards. The Animal Ambassador program includes teacher-training sessions, two presentations by Society staff at participating schools, two structured class trips to the Zoo, and classroom activities conducted by teachers in the classroom before and after each Zoo visit. The program also offers complimentary Zoo admissions and parking passes for the participating students to return to the Zoo that summer with their families.
