Zachariah’s Acres – Seed to Sale Program

Zachariah’s Acres in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin connects special needs children and their families with the miracles of nature. Zachariah’s Acres hosts free events exclusively for families with special needs children. These events offer a variety of interactive nature-based activities including scenic trail walks, hay rides, and tending to garden beds. They also feature a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, provide volunteer opportunities for young adults with special needs, and host community and school field trips. It is their goal to open the world of nature and agriculture to children with disabilities.

In 2018 The Holz Family Foundation will help sponsor Zachariah’s Acres’ Seed to Sale program. Children with physical and/or cognitive disabilities will look after their “own” raised garden bed to grow, pack, and sell produce. This program teams up with special education departments throughout Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties to teach better healthy eating habits, encourage physical activity, enhance social and community connections, teach business and money management, as well as grow self-confidence.
